For people starting, running, improving or returning to business, work or study. We help individuals, founders, small businesses and growing teams make sense of decisions, systems, people, training pathways and next steps.
Human Business Mentor provides practical, human-led business mentoring for start-ups, growing businesses and leaders who need clear thinking, structured support and grounded advice.
We help business owners and managers make sense of what is in front of them — whether that is setting up from scratch, hiring staff, improving systems, managing growth, building capability, considering software, or working through a problem that has become too hard to untangle alone.
This is not generic coaching or motivational advice. It is practical business support for people who want straight conversation, clearer priorities, and next steps they can actually use.
Why we exist
Large organisations often have internal teams for HR, training, compliance, systems, governance, operations and leadership development. Many smaller businesses do not — but they still face similar decisions.
Human Business Mentor was created to support businesses, owners and managers who need practical help beyond generic advice or off-the-shelf templates. We work with the real context of the business: the people, the systems, the pressure points, the gaps and the decisions that need to be made. We aim to provide support that is practical, relevant and grounded in what is actually happening in the business.
What we help with
Every business is different, but many problems sit in familiar places: unclear structure, people issues, capability gaps, messy systems, growth pressure, or decisions that have become harder than they should be. Human Business Mentor was created for businesses and individuals who need more than generic advice, but do not have a whole internal team behind them.
For people with a business idea who need help understanding what comes next. We can help clarify the idea, identify what needs to be set up first, map early priorities and build a simple 30-, 60- and 90-day plan — moving from an idea in your head to structured action.
For businesses relying too much on memory, goodwill or one person holding everything together. Role clarity, practical policies and procedures, workflows, templates, communication rhythms and reporting structures that make the business easier to run, easier to explain and easier to grow.
For owners and managers who need practical support with people decisions, but do not have an internal HR team to lean on. Understanding the role that actually needs filling, better job ads and screening, onboarding and the first 90 days, workforce gaps, and preparing for difficult conversations. Where a matter moves into employment law or formal workplace advice, we will tell you that specialist advice is needed.
For businesses that need their people to understand what to do, how to do it and why it matters. Customised workplace learning support, onboarding guidance, training matrices, competency pathways and internal guidance staff can actually use — particularly in trade, construction, maritime, logistics, resources and compliance-heavy environments.
For owners, managers and emerging leaders who need to lead people more calmly, clearly and confidently. This is not off-the-shelf training delivered from a workbook. It is mentoring based on the person, the business, the situation and the workplace reality. Communication style, difficult conversations, setting expectations, accountability, managing pressure and building trust with staff.
For businesses considering new systems or software, but unsure what they actually need. We help before anything is chosen or built: mapping workflows, identifying manual tasks, preparing system requirements, communicating clearly with developers and vendors, and reviewing whether current tools are fit for purpose. Technology should make the business easier to run — we help you understand what you need before you spend money.
For businesses that feel stretched, reactive or unclear. Reviewing how the business currently operates, identifying bottlenecks, clarifying priorities and building a practical improvement plan — sorting what matters, what can wait and what needs to change first.
For businesses that need better structure without unnecessary corporate complexity. Decision-making frameworks, practical risk discussions, governance processes, documentation habits and role accountability that help the business operate better.
For situations where something has gone wrong with a provider, agency, contractor or another business. Building a clear timeline, organising emails and evidence, drafting a clear non-legal complaint or issue summary, and identifying possible escalation pathways. We do not provide legal advice or represent clients in legal matters.
Pathway guidance
Not everyone comes to Human Business Mentor with a business already operating. Sometimes people are trying to understand a pathway, return to work, enrol in study, explore a trade or industry, take on a trainee, or work out what training they need before spending money on courses.
Much of this information exists somewhere. The problem is that it is often spread across multiple websites, written for people who already understand the system, and full of course codes, contract terms, tickets and acronyms that are hard to make sense of without context. We help translate the information into plain language so you can understand what you are looking at, what questions to ask, and what your next step could be. The decision remains yours — but you do not have to work it all out alone.
For people considering a maritime traineeship, or businesses thinking about taking on a trainee. What the pathway may involve — roles, tickets, sea time, workplace expectations and possible progression — and the questions worth asking a training provider, employer or host business before committing.
For people wanting to work offshore, FIFO, maritime, construction or logistics but unsure what training is required. The difference between mandatory training, role-specific requirements and employer preferences — plus mobilisation, expiry dates and refreshers. This can help you avoid spending money on courses you may not need yet.
For people thinking about study but unsure how to navigate the process. How vocational education generally works, the difference between a certificate, diploma, short course and skill set, entry requirements, study load, and what to have ready before contacting a provider. Useful when course codes and training packages have started to feel like a wall.
For parents, carers or people who have had time away from work and are unsure where to begin. Working through your experience, transferable skills, confidence, training needs and possible next steps — whether that is employment, study, casual work, a career change or something of your own. The hardest part is often not capability. It is knowing where to start.
For people who have been thinking about a business, service or side project but have not yet turned it into a clear plan. Shaping the idea into something you can test: what the service is, who may buy it, what needs to be set up first, what to charge, and whether it is ready to move from thought to action.
For businesses considering trainees, new entrants or workforce pathway programs. The requirements are not always easy to understand when you are reading them cold. We walk through what a training contract may involve, what supervision and record-keeping can look like, and whether the business is ready to support someone properly — before they start, not after.
For people who know they want change but do not know what direction to take. Looking at existing experience, identifying transferable skills, understanding training gaps, preparing questions for employers or providers, and creating a practical next-step plan — whether the direction is maritime, offshore, construction, operations, leadership or something of your own.
Important boundary. This is explanation and pathway guidance, not enrolment, placement or regulated advice. Human Business Mentor is not a training provider and does not guarantee enrolment, employment, traineeship placement, site access or mobilisation outcomes. Training contracts in WA are registered and regulated by the Apprenticeship Office — for formal rules, they're the authority to call on 13 19 54. If you want help making sense of a ticket, course or mobilisation requirement before you commit to it, that's exactly the conversation a Start Here Call is for.
Fit
If your matter requires a registered tax agent, lawyer, registered migration agent, licensed financial adviser, training provider, regulator or employer confirmation, we will tell you and help identify the appropriate professional or authority to speak with.
Sessions
Everyone starts with the free call. If ongoing support makes sense, these are the options — chosen together, once we both understand the work involved. Every paid session ends with a written summary of actions, priorities and next steps. See exactly what each session includes.

WA small business owners can access free support through the Small Business Development Corporation on 133 140. If that solves the issue, use it. Human Business Mentor exists for people who want more direct, practical and personalised support alongside their situation.
Business mentoring and pathway guidance are general support. Outcomes depend on your market, timing, resources, decisions, employer requirements, provider rules, site requirements and what is actually implemented after the session.
We help clarify options, risks, questions and next steps. You remain responsible for business decisions, commitments, spending, hiring, enrolment, applications, contracts and implementation.
We do not provide legal, tax, accounting, financial product, migration, visa, engineering, health, safety certification, industrial relations or other regulated professional advice. We also do not act as a training provider, employment agency, migration agent, lawyer, accountant or financial adviser. If your issue needs one of those professionals or authorities, we will direct you to seek that advice.
Human Business Mentor may use technology and AI tools to support administration, note organisation and document preparation. All mentoring guidance, recommendations and client-facing material are reviewed by a person before being provided to clients.
Sessions can be rescheduled with at least 48 hours' notice. For cancellations or no-shows within 48 hours, the session may be treated as used.
Fees are not refunded for change of mind. Nothing on this website limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law — services must be delivered with due care and skill, and if that fails you are entitled to a remedy.
We know not everyone who needs practical support is in a position to pay for a full session upfront. That is why Human Business Mentor offers a free 20-minute Start Here Call, a lower-cost 45-minute Practical Step session, instalment options on selected packages, and a small number of access sessions each month for people under genuine financial pressure.
The aim is to make practical support available without creating pressure, debt or unclear arrangements. If cost is a barrier, raise it during the Start Here Call and we will let you know what is available.
If you have a specific request, a corporate or team booking, or a situation that does not fit the standard sessions, contact the team directly to discuss a customised package contextualised to your business needs.
